200,000 Saplings Planted at Rawalpindi’s Takhtpari to Restore the Forest

Rawalpindi, July 27, 2024 – The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi and Forest Department launched a monsoon plantation drive on Saturday, aiming to restore the forest at ‘Takhtpari’ by planting nearly 200,000 saplings, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.

PHA employees and Forest Department officials participated in the campaign, which was also attended by senior PHA officers. The officers emphasized the importance of community involvement in the plantation drive, saying, “Green Punjab is our destination, and we need active participation from civil society, students, and youngsters to make it successful.”

They highlighted the crucial role of forests in controlling severe weather effects and noted that the rapid expansion of housing societies has led to the loss of natural forests and trees, resulting in a sharp rise in temperature over the past few years.

PHA Rawalpindi has pledged to continue the Monsoon tree plantation campaign for two months, distributing saplings among citizens to ensure the success of the initiative. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to providing a green environment for the citizens. This drive is a significant step towards restoring forests and mitigating the effects of climate change in the region.
