
ISLAMABAD, The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), has emphasized the urgent need for effective disaster management strategies in light of the increasing frequency and severity of climate-related disasters.
He was speaking at a two-day consultation event on Tuesday, Jan 14, titled “Transforming Communities through Women and Girls” Leadership for Climate Resilience and Gender Equality’ organised by the NDMA in partnership with the Gender Task Force (GTF) and various UN agencies.
NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik highlighted that these disasters disproportionately impact vulnerable populations, particularly women and girls, who often face greater risks and challenges during such events. His remarks come as part of a broader call for proactive measures to enhance disaster preparedness and response across the country.
Chairman NDMA noted that climate-related disasters significantly affect women and girls, necessitating targeted strategies to empower them within disaster risk reduction frameworks.
He stressed the importance of integrating global best practices into national strategies to effectively mitigate the impacts of natural disasters. This includes learning from past experiences and adapting strategies accordingly.
The NDMA is focusing on collaboration among various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and international partners, to build a more resilient society capable of withstanding future disasters.
The NDMA is committed to enhancing training programs aimed at improving the skills of disaster management professionals, ensuring that they are well-equipped to handle emergencies.
