Saudi Arabia Observes World Radio Day 2025 with Focus on Climate Action and Awareness

Saudi Arabia celebrated World Radio Day on February 13, 2025, with a focus on the theme “Radio and Climate Change.”

The event highlighted the critical role of radio in addressing environmental challenges and promoting climate awareness. Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Harthi, CEO of the Saudi Broadcasting Authority, emphasized the medium’s wide reach and its evolution alongside the Kingdom’s social development.

Saudi radio stations, which began broadcasting in 1949, now include diverse programming across multiple languages to serve both local and global audiences.

Globally, World Radio Day 2025 underscored radio’s importance in disseminating climate-related information, especially in rural areas where it provides weather updates, sustainable farming advice, and disaster warnings.

UNESCO encouraged broadcasters to enhance climate-focused programming and maintain editorial independence. Community radio stations were also recognized for fostering inclusive dialogue on environmental issues
