Karachi: Transparency International Pakistan has launched the Journalist Fellowship on Climate Finance and Transparency on Monday, June 22, 2025. A total of fifteen journalists from Sindh’s most climate-vulnerable districts were selected for the fellowship and participated in the first session.
Esteemed speakers including Justice (R) Zia Perwez, Former Judged Supreme Court, and Chairman TI Pakistan; Dr. Uzma Shujaat, Board of Trustee, TI Pakistan; Mirza Mujtaba Baig, Deputy Director (Public Awareness), EPA Sindh; Lubna Jerar Naqvi, Senior Journalist; Hamza Butt, Climate and Nature Finance Expert; Kashif Ali, Executive Director, TI Pakistan; Nasreen Memon, Project Coordinator, TI Pakistan; Raima Mehmood, Policy and Research Coordinator, TI Pakistan, and Fariha Fatima, Programme Associate, TI Pakistan addressed various aspects of climate change, global and national environmental governance and climate finance.
Kashif Ali, Executive Director of TI Pakistan, emphasized that climate journalism is essential for raising public awareness and empowering citizens with accurate information to drive informed climate action and policy change.
He highlighted that the fellowship program is a comprehensive six-month initiative aimed at strengthening journalists’ ability to report on climate governance, transparency, and policy implementation.
This fellowship equips participants with in-depth knowledge of climate finance mechanisms, governance structures, and both national and international climate policies.
Kashif Ali further that informed and accurate reporting plays a critical role in engaging communities. When citizens have access to reliable information, they are more likely to understand climate challenges and actively participate in developing and supporting sustainable, locally driven solutions.
