Mass Migration Underway as Fresh Floods Devastate GB’s Ghizer

A massive migration is underway in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region, specifically in Ghizer district’s Ishkoman sub-district’s Village Dain, after devastating flash floods hit the area on August 14, 2025.

According to local environment journalist Nadia Zartaj, reporting for Climate Inn from the region, the disaster has claimed two lives and damaged around 100 houses, affecting many more.

Floods Trigger Mass Exodus

The situation has worsened with fresh floods today, prompting residents to flee their homes in search of safety, Zartaj reported. The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat and Focus Humanitarian Assistance (FOCUS) organizations have provided tents to accommodate the displaced population, with many families already starting to move in.

Infrastructure Damage Exacerbates Crisis

A 100-year-old bridge connecting Chatorkhand and Dain has been destroyed, and roads have been damaged, disrupting communication and access to essential services. The shortage of food and ration supplies is further exacerbating the hardship faced by the affected communities.

Urgent Relief Efforts Underway

Local authorities and organizations are working to provide aid and support to the displaced population. However, more efforts are needed to address the scale and complexity of the disaster.
