The Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz warned, “There is a risk of flooding in Shahdara and the area of the Ravi River.”
“The Lahore Commissioner and DC have been instructed to completely evacuate areas at risk and complete preparations,” she added. “They have fulfilled these instructions and thanks to timely evacuations, precious lives have been saved.”
Punjab CM has stated that the whole of Punjab is inundated and that an unprecedented amount of water is flowing through the Chenab, Sutlej and Ravi rivers.
“There is nowhere for this water to be drained, which is why a lot of low-lying areas have been submerged,” she said during a meeting.
“There should be nothing lacking in our preparedness,” CM Maryam highlighted.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday directed provincial and district authorities to speed up relief and rehabilitation operations in flood-hit areas.
Presiding over a video link meeting with commissioners, she instructed that all damaged bridges be repaired promptly once the water recedes. She also emphasized the field presence of commissioners and deputy commissioners and called for immediate documentation of losses to homes and crops.
The chief minister ordered district administrations to restrict public access to flood zones and stressed that the government would stand by the people until the crisis was resolved. She announced her plan to visit Sialkot and Narowal tomorrow to personally review the situation.
CM Punjab further directed authorities to improve conditions in relief camps and ensure adequate supplies of medicines across the affected regions
