FAO urged to offer guidance on mitigating climate change effects on agriculture

ISLAMABAD, Aug 6: On Tuesday, Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain called upon the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to guide minimizing the impact of climate change on Pakistan’s agriculture sector. During a meeting with FAO’s Country Representative in Pakistan, Florence Rolle, the minister stressed the importance of continuous innovation in agriculture to enhance output and achieve sustainable economic development.

The discussions also covered ongoing projects and potential future collaborations to improve local agriculture and livestock sectors. The minister highlighted the government’s efforts in launching various programs to support farming communities and emphasized the need to improve farmers’ capacities for modern crop cultivation.

Florence Rolle reaffirmed the FAO’s commitment to advancing Pakistan’s agricultural sector. She emphasized collaboration with stakeholders to build the capacities of farmers and researchers and noted ongoing efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change on agriculture. The FAO is determined to support Pakistan in developing its livestock sector, which is crucial for boosting rural economies.
