Pakistan and Rwanda Forge Partnership to Combat Climate Change and Enhance Environmental Conservation

Rwanda and Pakistan have recently committed to enhancing their collaboration in tackling climate change and promoting environmental conservation.

During a meeting in Islamabad on December 26, 2024, Rwandan Ambassador Fatou Harerimana and Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, discussed various potential areas for cooperation, including water conservationsmart agriculture, and disaster management.

Both leaders emphasized the urgency of joint efforts to address pressing climate challenges such as heatwavesdroughts, and water scarcity. Ambassador Harerimana noted that the two nations share many similar climate-related issues and highlighted the importance of pooling resources and expertise to develop innovative solutions that can benefit both countries.

The discussions also focused on knowledge exchangejoint research initiatives, and the implementation of green technologies aimed at sustainable development. The ambassador pointed out Rwanda’s success in environmental sustainability, particularly its progressive policies on renewable energy and reforestation, which could serve as valuable models for Pakistan.

In light of these discussions, both parties agreed on the necessity of formalizing their collaboration through an agreement that outlines key areas of cooperation. This partnership aims to contribute to global environmental goals, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement targets.
