Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive solid waste management system in Islamabad.
During a high-level review meeting held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, Randhawa was updated on the progress of the bidding process for outsourcing waste management services, which is a crucial step towards improving the city’s waste management capabilities.
Randhawa highlighted that the outsourcing process should be expedited to ensure that an effective waste management system is implemented, addressing both urban and rural areas of Islamabad.
He noted that Islamabad generates approximately 1,500 to 1,600 metric tons of solid waste daily, with a significant portion being organic waste that could potentially be composted.
The CDA has been tasked with not only managing this waste but also coordinating public health services related to sanitation and garbage disposal within the city.
The CDA’s solid waste management strategy aims to enhance the efficiency of waste collection, transportation, treatment, and disposal processes. Randhawa’s push for swift action reflects a broader commitment to improving environmental sustainability and public health in the federal capital.
