ISLAMABAD: Aisha Humera Moriani, the Secretary of the Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Ministry in Pakistan, has recently launched the Challenge Fund for Climate Resilient Infrastructure. This initiative aims to enhance Pakistan’s capacity to develop infrastructure that can withstand the adverse effects of climate change, such as heatwaves, floods, and droughts.
The launch of this fund is part of a broader effort to address the significant climate vulnerabilities faced by Pakistan. During her address, Moriani emphasized the urgent need for access to climate finance, stating that while investments are crucial, they must be effectively directed towards rehabilitation efforts in areas severely impacted by climate disasters.
She highlighted that funds should contribute to the country’s GDP growth rather than merely recovering from disasters.
The Challenge Fund is expected to facilitate public investments in resilient infrastructure and support the adoption of clean energy technologies. This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s commitment to transitioning towards a more sustainable and climate-resilient economy.
