€2.4M EU Aid for Bangladesh, India, Philippines Floods

The European Union has announced €2.4 million in humanitarian funding to support the most affected populations in Bangladesh, India, and the Philippines, following recent devastating floods in these countries, European Commission announced.

The funding will help provide cash assistance, food, access to clean water and sanitation, and other essential services in the hardest-hit areas, it said.

The EU’s Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, stated that “The beginning of this year’s monsoon season is proving very hard for people in the north of Bangladesh, India, and in the Philippines. The EU is stepping up its assistance to the most affected populations, so they can receive much-needed relief.”

In Bangladesh and India, the funding will support communities affected by floods, with Bangladesh facing the combined effects of cyclone Remal that hit the country in May, impacting nearly one-third of the country. In the Philippines, the funding will support communities in Mindanao, where monsoon rains and typhoons have caused massive flooding.

This funding comes in addition to the EU’s previous allocations to these countries, including over €30 million to Bangladesh earlier this year and €3.1 million to the Philippines this year.
