Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Change and Environment Minister Removed Amid “Deforestation Criticism”

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has removed Fazal Hakeem Khan as provincial minister for climate change and environment, following intense social media backlash over deforestation in the province, according to a report by Dawn.

Report says Khan has been reassigned to the portfolio of livestock, fisheries, and cooperatives department, effective immediately. The decision comes after videos of deforestation and logging went viral on social media, sparking widespread criticism.

As per report, Khan had requested the chief minister to change his portfolio due to the intense criticism. KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur accepted the request, leading to the portfolio change.

Report says Khan had also faced criticism for his recent TV interview, where he made several gaffes about climate change and environmental issues. The clips had gone viral on social media, attracting criticism from the public and climate activists.
