
JAMSHORO: In response to the alarming occurrence of lightning in Thar Desert’s Tharparkar and Umerkot districts in Pakistan’s Sindh province, the Vice Chancellor of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro has formed a three-member committee to analyze and provide recommendations on mitigating the intense lightning strikes, Climate Inn has learnt.
Led by Dr. Zubair Ahmed Memon, Professor of Electrical Engineering at MUET, the committee comprises experts from the same department, Assistant Professor Noor Nabi Shaikh and technologist Nizamuddin Channd.
The committee’s mission is to investigate the causes and effects of the intense lightning in the region and propose effective solutions to protect the communities and livestock in Tharparkar and Umerkot districts. This initiative aims to address the growing concern of lightning-related deaths and injuries in the area, ensuring the safety and well-being of the local population.
However, it is currently unknown when the committee will visit the Thar Desert region to conduct their investigation and assessment.
