
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to combating climate change and is seeking support from the Commonwealth to develop resilience against climate-induced disasters. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar made the announcement during a news conference with Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland, according to a report by the Radio Pakistan.
Dar briefed Scotland on Pakistan’s policies to combat climate change, emphasizing the need for collective action to address this global challenge. He highlighted the devastating impact of the 2022 floods on Pakistan and the importance of international cooperation in building resilience against such disasters.
The Foreign Minister also expressed Pakistan’s support for the Commonwealth’s connectivity agenda, which aligns with Pakistan’s vision of regional connectivity and trade. He identified opportunities for collaboration in areas such as education, skill development, youth and women empowerment, health, and environmental preservation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commonwealth Secretary General was appreciative of the resilience and determination exhibited by Pakistan in the wake of 2022 floods. She said the commonwealth stood in solidarity with the Pakistani people during those difficult times.
