Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, recently highlighted the urgent climate challenges facing Pakistan.
Speaking on a private news channel on Dec 31, 2024, she emphasized that the government is adopting a proactive approach to tackle these issues, particularly during international engagements where climate change remains a priority agenda item for the Prime Minister.
Alam stated that under the Prime Minister’s directives, a comprehensive mechanism has been established to meet environmental targets, which includes setting clear guidelines to enhance coordination with provincial authorities. This initiative aims to ensure that Pakistan fulfills its international environmental commitments.
She also outlined a three-point strategy focused on combating smog through pollution control, energy transition, and robust environmental regulation, which will guide government efforts toward achieving long-term environmental goals.
In addition, she praised the “Breathe Pakistan” initiative, aimed at raising public awareness about climate issues, and called on the media to play a pivotal role in educating the public about these challenges. Alam stressed the need for broader awareness campaigns across multiple platforms to effectively address climate change.
