
KARACHI: Nasir Hussain Shah, Minister for Planning and Development, inaugurated the 7th Agricultural Census 2025 – Integrated Digital Count for Sindh on January 1, 2025, in Karachi, with significant participation from government officials and dignitaries.
The primary aim of this census is to gather critical data regarding Pakistan’s agricultural structure, including crop patterns, livestock populations, and mechanization trends.
The event featured remarks from key figures such as Muhammad Ali Malkani, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, and Nasir Hussain Shah, Minister for Planning and Development.
Chief Statistician Dr. Naeem-uz-Zafar emphasized the census’s transformative potential, stating, “This is not just a data collection exercise; it is a foundation for evidence-based decision-making”.
Dr. Naeem-uz-Zafar highlighted that the census will utilize advanced technologies such as tablet-based data collection and GIS dashboards to ensure accuracy and reliability .
In Sindh, where the launch took place at the Sindh Secretariat, the province contributes significantly to crops like cotton and rice. The census aims to document agricultural land across various districts to inform future policies effectively.
Data collection for the census will occur over a span of 40 days, from January 1 to February 10, 2025. The results are anticipated to be compiled by August 2025.
Other provinces are also participating in this extensive data collection effort, highlighting agriculture’s critical role in Pakistan’s economy, which contributes approximately 23% to the national GDP
