
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to take all necessary measures to protect lives and properties in view of the monsoon rains, Radio Pakistan reported.
In a phone call with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, the Prime Minister advised conducting an estimate of losses of lives and properties. He emphasized improving coordination with provincial disaster management departments, including those in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Prime Minister instructed expediting measures for the restoration of highways and roads affected by rains and landslides. He also called for providing all possible health facilities to the people of affected areas.
Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif instructed ensuring the provision of relief goods, including medicines and essential items, to the affected areas. He expressed deep grief and sorrow over the deaths caused by floods and rains, and directed the NDMA to take swift action to mitigate the effects of the monsoon rains.
