
Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Transparency International Pakistan organized a one-day training workshop on Climate Change Mitigation, Adaptation, and Social Accountability in district Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on July 23, 2024. The workshop aimed to empower citizens and civil society with knowledge and tools for effective participation in climate governance.
Ms. Nasreen Memon, Project Coordinator at Transparency International Pakistan, provided an overview of climate change basics, while Ms. Zaniab Tariq, a Climate Change Expert, discussed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Change Policy 2022. Mr. Jahanzaib from the Right to Information Commission, Hazara Division, spoke on social accountability tools for transparent climate action, and Mr. Abdul Shakoor, Executive Director of Friends Welfare Association Pakistan, welcomed participants.
Experts discussed climate change impacts, mitigation strategies, and social accountability mechanisms, with a focus on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Change Policy 2022. Participants engaged in exercises to build community resilience and assess vulnerability in their areas.
Speakers emphasized the importance of citizen participation in climate decision-making, transparency, and accountability in government actions. The workshop concluded with a discussion on the role of Transparency International Pakistan’s Legal Advice Centre in promoting transparency and effectiveness in climate action.
The event was part of efforts to enhance citizens’ and civil society’s participation in climate governance, ensuring a more inclusive and accountable approach to addressing climate change challenges in the region.
