UN to Boost Climate Ambition Ahead of 2025 Paris Agreement

Nairobi, July 23, 2024 – The United Nations and partners have announced a series of regional meetings aimed at increasing ambition in the next round of climate pledges under the Paris Agreement. The meetings, known as NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora, will take place in 2024 and aim to support countries in submitting new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) by 2025.

According to the UN Climate press release, the NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora will focus on mitigation options, adaptation solutions, and inclusion of super pollutants in the NDCs. Participants will engage in peer learning, explore innovative financing models, and share how to develop policy roadmaps that lead to implementation.

The Regional Forum for the Pacific will take place from August 12-16, 2024, in Apia, Samoa. The Regional Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean will take place from August 27-29, 2024, in Bogota, Colombia. The Regional Forum for Eastern Europe and Central Asia will take place from September 3-5, 2024, in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The Regional Forum for the Middle East and North Africa will take place from September 23-25, 2024, in Tunis, Tunisia.

The Regional Forum for Asia will take place from September 30-October 2, 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand. The Regional Forum for Africa will take place from October 7-9, 2024, in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Fora will be closed-door events, targeting government officials responsible for NDC revisions from all countries in each region. Inclusivity and equal representation will be ensured through the invitation of selected resource spokespeople from youth and other under-represented and marginalized groups.
