Wildfire in Umerkot Claims Lives of 180 Animals and Destroys Vast Agricultural Land

A significant wildfire that ignited on December 18 in the Khokhrapar union council and parts of Achhro Thar has resulted in devastating losses, including the death of 180 animals and the destruction of crops, fodder, and over 50,000 trees across 20 acres.

The fire reportedly originated near the Indian border and has severely impacted local agriculture, particularly the guar crop and various tree species such as ber, kunbhat, kandi, rohira, and phogg.

Additionally, thousands of birds including peacocks, partridges, doves, crows, and sparrows have perished in the blaze.

The affected communities, which primarily depend on livestock and arid farming for their livelihoods, are now facing a critical challenge in rebuilding their lives. With grazing grounds and fodder obliterated by the fire, the remaining livestock are at risk of starvation.

Villagers have expressed deep concern about their future as they navigate the aftermath of this disaster

As reported, the soldiers of Pakistan Army and Rangers participated in fire control and relief activities. Relief activities have been started after controlling the fire in the affected area.

Assistant Commissioner Umerkot Rajab Ali said that survey was being conducted about the damage caused by the fire.
